What "sealed before kickoff" protects you from

The phrase "sealed before kickoff" is short, and every word carries a rule. The pick is chosen. A SHA-256 hash of it is published. The pick itself stays hidden from free viewers until the game ends. After the final, the pick and a random salt are revealed so that anyone can recompute the hash. This article lists what that sequence protects a buyer from, one risk at a time.

Six things it protects against

  • Editing the pick afterwards. Change the fixture, the market, the price or the kickoff and the hash no longer matches. The only version that verifies is the version that was sealed.
  • Picking the winner after the game. A seller cannot decide after the result which pick was the real one. The hash was published first, so the choice is on record.
  • Swapping the price. The published price and the minimum price are two of the seven fields in the hash. A later claim that a better price was posted cannot be made to verify.
  • Posting two sides and showing the right one. With a single main pick a day and one hash for it, a second hash for the same game is visible. It leaves the practice possible and makes it findable.
  • Quiet deletion of a loss. The hash appears in the free forum before the game. If the result never follows, a gap is on show.
  • Guessing the pick from the hash. The salt, 64 random characters, is kept secret until settlement, so the hash cannot be brute-forced by trying all plausible picks.

How it looks on Whop

The free forum, The record, carries the fixture and the hash before kickoff. The paid forum, Sealed picks, carries the selection with its price and minimum price. After the final, The record carries the verdict, score, hash and salt. At each step the free viewer can see that a pick exists and later see how it settled. Only the paid member sees the side before the game. See how the hash and the salt work in a Whop post.

A short timelineSealed and hashed: before kickoff. Selection visible to members in Sealed picks: before kickoff. Game played. Result, hash and salt in The record: after the final. Anyone recomputes at betsbeats.com/verify.

What it leaves untouched

  • The quality of the pick. A sealed pick can lose. A hash shows that it was fixed, not that it was right.
  • The time of the first publication. The time of the hash comes from the publisher's own clock. Independent timestamping would close that gap, and until it exists the limit is stated in what the commitment hash does not prove.
  • Your own bet. What you stake, the price you get and where you bet are your decisions.
  • The result reading. A person on the BetsBeats side marks the settled result from public scores. The score is open to anyone who wants to compare.

That mix of strong protection against editing and honest limits on timing and quality is typical of a good commitment scheme. If a service claims more than that, ask what it is leaving out.

A comparison with an ordinary post

An ordinary post says: here is my pick. A sealed post says: here is a fingerprint of my pick, and I will show you the pick and the key after the game. The second asks for more patience and gives you more to check. A seller willing to be bound in advance is taking a risk with their own story. That willingness is information, although not about the pick.

Do the check onceYou protect yourself most effectively by watching one full cycle: save the hash before a game, read the result and salt afterwards, and recompute. Verifying a pick posted on Whop shows the steps. Everything here is for adults aged 21 or over, and every pick can lose.
