What blowout risk means in college football

The useful version of this is narrower than the popular one. A game decided by forty is not a football question, it is a question about what a coach does in the fourth quarter.

In college football specifically: Rosters change by transfer portal and by eligibility, and a team in November may be materially different from the one that opened the season.

Why it lands differently here Twelve games, and several against opponents from a different competitive universe. A season record says less here than in any other sport.

Starters sitting, a clock that stops running, and a backup with two career passes are each worth two scores and none is announced.

That is also the expensive part. The biggest, most confident-looking numbers carry the most hidden variance, not the least.

How they ended

Over 1,299 finished games in College Football whose result line says how it ended — the feed's own one-line verdict, not a reading of the play.

5 games landed exactly on the number — the handicap or the total — so they are in the counts they are out of and in neither result.

The prices counted here are DraftKings', as they stood when we last wrote each game up — one snapshot per game, near kick-off for almost all of them, and never a closing line. So this says what the published line did, not how it moved on the way there.

A season that happened. Nothing here predicts the next game, and none of it is advice.
