The run line when the home team walks off

A walk-off ends the game the instant the winning run crosses the plate, so the margin is whatever it is at that moment — and that is usually one.

Play stops when the result is decided, so the home side never gets the rest of the inning it would need to extend a lead. The exception is a walk-off that scores more than one run by itself.

The two ways a home team wins by one Tied in the ninth, a single scores the runner from second: 4-3, and a home -1.5 loses. Tied in the ninth with the bases loaded, a home run scores four: 7-3, and the same run line wins. One situation, opposite settlements, decided by which swing ended it.

It is asymmetric. A visiting team laying the run line plays a full ninth and can add to its lead; the home team laying the same number frequently cannot.

And that is the trap. The two sides of a run line are priced as though they are mirror images, and roughly half of all games end with the home side batting last and stopping the moment it is ahead.

What to do with it. Read a home run line as a bet that the game will not be close late, rather than as a bet on the better team.

What the published price did in MLB

2,496 games in MLB that are over and carried a price when we wrote them up, between March 26, 2026 and October 29, 2026. Each count sits beside what it is out of, and the share is the one divided by the other.

How they ended

Over 3,339 finished games in MLB whose result line says how it ended — the feed's own one-line verdict, not a reading of the play.

137 games landed exactly on the number — the handicap or the total — so they are in the counts they are out of and in neither result.

The prices counted here are DraftKings', as they stood when we last wrote each game up — one snapshot per game, near kick-off for almost all of them, and never a closing line. So this says what the published line did, not how it moved on the way there.

A season that happened. Nothing here predicts the next game, and none of it is advice.
