What the officials mean in Major League Soccer
Most of what gets said about this is downstream of one detail. Crews differ measurably in how often they call fouls, and in soccer a foul is a card, a free kick and a suspension risk rather than a point.
In Major League Soccer specifically: Weekly, mostly, and lineups are published an hour before kick-off — the shortest confirmed-team window of any sport here.
Assignments are published in some competitions and not others, which decides whether this is information or trivia.
What follows from that is less comfortable. The effect is real and small, and it is the kind of factor that is easy to over-weight because it feels like inside knowledge.

126 games landed exactly on the number — the handicap or the total — so they are in the counts they are out of and in neither result.
The prices counted here are DraftKings', as they stood when we last wrote each game up — one snapshot per game, near kick-off for almost all of them, and never a closing line. So this says what the published line did, not how it moved on the way there.
