Cashing out as a strategy

The offered figure contains a second margin on top of the one already paid when the bet was placed. Doing it routinely pays the house twice on every wager.

It is a new bet against your existing position, priced by the same operator that priced the first one. There is no reason for that price to be generous, and every commercial reason for it not to be.

The fee for not waiting A position worth 100 in expectation is commonly offered back at 85 to 90. That 10 to 15 is not a service charge disclosed anywhere; it is the difference between the true value and the button.

It has a legitimate use. Locking a result to reduce genuine variance in an unusually large position is a decision about exposure, and there are times when paying for certainty is rational.

That is also the expensive part. The interface makes it feel like control and prices it like insurance. It is offered most prominently at exactly the moments when the emotional pull to take it is strongest.

What to do with it. Decide before placing a bet whether you would cash it out, and at what figure. Deciding during the game is deciding under the conditions the button was designed for.

Work it out. The hedge calculator gives the stake that evens out the result for any two prices, and what is left on each side.
