Over-correcting for one absent name
Markets move hard on a headline injury, and the move is frequently larger than the player's actual contribution to the result.
The name carries recognition weight that the roster does not. Money arrives on the story, the line moves to meet it, and the difference between a starter and his replacement is usually smaller than the movement implies.
Some positions genuinely justify a large move. An NFL quarterback and an NHL goalie are worth what the market says and occasionally more, because no replacement exists at a comparable level.
Here is the catch. The bet is rarely on the injured team; it is on the market having gone too far. That requires knowing how far is too far, which is a much harder question than noticing the news.
What to do with it. Compare the line move to the measured difference between the two players before treating an over-reaction as an opportunity.
