Own goals and the anytime scorer market

An own goal counts for nobody in the scorer markets, and it counts normally in every other market on the match.

Two accounting systems run at once. The scoreline records a goal for the attacking side; the scorer record attributes it to the defender, and the scorer market is written to exclude exactly that.

A goal that pays two markets and not the third A cross deflects in off a defender in the seventieth minute and the match finishes 1-0. The moneyline pays, over 0.5 goals pays, and every anytime-scorer bet on the match loses — including the ones on the players who created it.

First-scorer and last-scorer markets follow the same rule: an own goal is skipped when the operator works out who was first.

What follows from that is less comfortable. It is the one goal a supporter never forgets and the one the scorer market behaves as though did not happen, which is why the settlement feels wrong even to people who know the rule.

What to do with it. Read an anytime-scorer bet as a bet on a named player rather than on the game producing a goal.

What the published price did in MLS

483 games in MLS that are over and carried a price when we wrote them up, between February 21, 2026 and November 2, 2026. Each count sits beside what it is out of, and the share is the one divided by the other.

How they ended

Over 603 finished games in MLS whose result line says how it ended — the feed's own one-line verdict, not a reading of the play.

126 games landed exactly on the number — the handicap or the total — so they are in the counts they are out of and in neither result.

The prices counted here are DraftKings', as they stood when we last wrote each game up — one snapshot per game, near kick-off for almost all of them, and never a closing line. So this says what the published line did, not how it moved on the way there.

A season that happened. Nothing here predicts the next game, and none of it is advice.

Counted November 6, 2026.
