Does NFL overtime count towards the total?
Yes, on every standard total. Regulation-only totals exist as a separate market and are labelled as such.
A bet settles when the game does, and the game includes overtime. The market prices the full event because that is when it pays out.
NFL overtime is ten minutes with modified sudden-death rules, so it can end on the first drive with three points or produce two full possessions.
Which is where it goes wrong. Almost every reader prices sixty minutes and almost every total covers more, which is a systematic bias in the reader's head rather than in the number.
What to do with it. On any total near the line late in a tied game, remember the bet is not finished at the whistle.
