Account security, in the specific ways a betting account fails
A betting account holds money, a verified identity and a payment method, which makes it worth more to somebody else than an ordinary login. The failures that actually happen are password reuse, an unprotected email account, and SIM-based recovery — in that order.
The email account is the real target, because every reset flow ends there. Somebody with the email can reset the bookmaker password, change the withdrawal method, and pass most support checks, without ever having known the original password. Securing the betting account while leaving the email on a reused password protects the second door and not the first.
It does not mean two-factor authentication solves it if the second factor is SMS to a number that can be ported. SIM swap is the standard follow-up once an account is known to be worth attacking.
Here is the catch. Password managers get skipped for gambling accounts specifically, because people do not want them in a browser they share or a vault they might show somebody. That reasoning produces exactly the reused password the whole attack depends on.
What to do with it. Give the email a unique password and an app-based second factor before doing anything to the betting account, then give the betting account its own unique password and turn on whatever second factor it supports.
