What handle is
Handle — The total amount of money wagered on a market. The quantity that actually moves lines.
Lines respond to money because money is what creates exposure. A thousand small bets and one large one can carry the same handle, and the line reacts to the total rather than the count.
Handle figures are published in some jurisdictions by regulators, which makes them checkable where they exist.
Here is the catch. Ticket counts are published constantly and handle almost never, which tells you which of the two is a marketing number.
What to do with it. Ignore any 'public betting' figure that does not state whether it is tickets or money.

286 games landed exactly on the number — the handicap or the total — so they are in the counts they are out of and in neither result.
The prices counted here are DraftKings', as they stood when we last wrote each game up — one snapshot per game, near kick-off for almost all of them, and never a closing line. So this says what the published line did, not how it moved on the way there.
