What laying points is
Laying points — Backing the favourite on a handicap, giving the points away. A −7 favourite must win by eight for the bet to win.
The handicap exists to balance an uneven contest. Taking the strong side means accepting a condition attached to the win, and the condition is what the price is built around.
In sports with key numbers, which side of a common margin you are laying matters more than the margin's size.
And that is the trap. Winning the game and winning the bet are different events, and the gap between them is exactly the handicap.
What to do with it. State the condition explicitly before betting — 'they must win by eight' — rather than thinking of it as backing a team.

The prices counted here are DraftKings', as they stood when we last wrote each game up — one snapshot per game, near kick-off for almost all of them, and never a closing line. So this says what the published line did, not how it moved on the way there.
