An injury report and the spread in the NBA

This is simpler than it is usually made to sound. A published report is priced within minutes. What moves a number is the gap between what the report says and what turns out to be true.

The spread is a handicap that makes an uneven game an even bet, and in the NBA it behaves like this: A smooth distribution with no key numbers, so shopping for a half point buys almost nothing and shopping for a better price buys everything.

Where the two meet Questionable means something different in each league, and in some it is used tactically rather than medically.

The league's own contribution: Fouls stop the clock at the end, so a trailing team manufactures possessions. Late fouling routinely adds six to ten points to a total after the game is decided.

The problem arrives next. The bet you want is rarely on the injured player's team. It is on the market having over-corrected for one name. And on this market in particular: A spread that moves after you bet does not change your bet, but it does tell you the market disagreed with you and got more confident about it.

What the published price did in the NBA

1,261 games in the NBA that are over and carried a price when we wrote them up, between November 25, 2025 and November 6, 2026. Each count sits beside what it is out of, and the share is the one divided by the other.

How they ended

Over 1,587 finished games in the NBA whose result line says how it ended — the feed's own one-line verdict, not a reading of the play.

WhatHow oftenOut ofShare
Went past regulation771,5874.9%

4 games landed exactly on the number — the handicap or the total — so they are in the counts they are out of and in neither result.

The prices counted here are DraftKings', as they stood when we last wrote each game up — one snapshot per game, near kick-off for almost all of them, and never a closing line. So this says what the published line did, not how it moved on the way there.

A season that happened. Nothing here predicts the next game, and none of it is advice.

Counted November 6, 2026.
