What a line that moved means in college basketball

The useful version of this is narrower than the popular one. A number that moves has been argued with by people risking money. It is the only public signal in betting that costs something to send.

In college basketball specifically: Fifty-two games on a single Saturday in a busy month. No market can price all of them equally, and the ones nobody watches are priced by nobody.

Why it lands differently here Thirty games, most of them inside one conference, so a team's rating is built largely on opponents its rating is also built on.

Movement without news is the interesting kind. Movement after an injury report is just everybody reading the same page at the same time.

That is also the expensive part. Chasing a moved line means paying the price the movement created. By the time it is visible, the thing that caused it is priced.

How they ended

Over 6,487 finished games in College Basketball whose result line says how it ended — the feed's own one-line verdict, not a reading of the play.

WhatHow oftenOut ofShare
Went past regulation3296,4875.1%

4 games landed exactly on the number — the handicap or the total — so they are in the counts they are out of and in neither result.

The prices counted here are DraftKings', as they stood when we last wrote each game up — one snapshot per game, near kick-off for almost all of them, and never a closing line. So this says what the published line did, not how it moved on the way there.

A season that happened. Nothing here predicts the next game, and none of it is advice.
