What "against the spread" means

Against the spread — ATS in most American writing — means judged against the line rather than against the scoreboard. A team that wins by 4 as a 6.5-point favourite won the game and lost the bet.

Chiefs −6.5, final score 27—24 Straight up: the Chiefs won.
Against the spread: 27 − 6.5 = 20.5 against 24, so the Bills win the bet. The vocabulary for it: the Bills covered, the Chiefs failed to cover.

Covering, and the two records

You will see teams described with two records side by side: how they did straight up, and how they did against the spread. The second one is a description of how their results landed against the prices they were given, which is not the same thing as how good they were. A team that keeps being overpriced can be excellent and still cover rarely; a poor team getting generous lines can be the other way round.

What we publish, and what we would be careful with

Our archive publishes each pick exactly as it went out — market, side, line, price, and the time it was released — alongside the result it settled to, and nothing is edited after the game starts. We do not publish ATS records for teams, and we would read the ones you find elsewhere carefully: such a record depends entirely on which lines the compiler used, from which bookmaker, at which moment of the week. Change any of those and the record changes. A number without that context is not really a fact about anything.

What the published price did in US sports

11,262 games in US sports that are over and carried a price when we wrote them up, between November 24, 2025 and November 6, 2026. Each count sits beside what it is out of, and the share is the one divided by the other.

How they ended

Over 16,021 finished games in US sports whose result line says how it ended — the feed's own one-line verdict, not a reading of the play.

286 games landed exactly on the number — the handicap or the total — so they are in the counts they are out of and in neither result.

The prices counted here are DraftKings', as they stood when we last wrote each game up — one snapshot per game, near kick-off for almost all of them, and never a closing line. So this says what the published line did, not how it moved on the way there.

A season that happened. Nothing here predicts the next game, and none of it is advice.
