What early-season pricing means in college basketball

This is simpler than it is usually made to sound. Openers are priced from last season plus roster changes, because no current-season data exists.

In college basketball specifically: Fifty-two games on a single Saturday in a busy month. No market can price all of them equally, and the ones nobody watches are priced by nobody.

Why it lands differently here Thirty games, most of them inside one conference, so a team's rating is built largely on opponents its rating is also built on.

It is the widest gap of the year between what the market knows and what it will know, which is why limits are lowest then.

The problem arrives next. It is also when your own information is worst, and the second of those matters more than the first.

Over 6,487 finished games in College Basketball whose result line says how it ended — the feed's own one-line verdict, not a reading of the play.

4 games landed exactly on the number — the handicap or the total — so they are in the counts they are out of and in neither result.

The prices counted here are DraftKings', as they stood when we last wrote each game up — one snapshot per game, near kick-off for almost all of them, and never a closing line. So this says what the published line did, not how it moved on the way there.

A season that happened. Nothing here predicts the next game, and none of it is advice.
