How the moneyline works in hockey

Start with the mechanism, not the opinion. Prices sit close together because the teams do, and a hockey favourite is rarely a heavy one — the sport does not permit it.

The moneyline is a bet on who wins, and nothing else. No handicap at all, so the whole difference between two teams sits in the price. A win by the narrowest margin and a rout settle identically.

What hockey does to it A quarter of all games are decided by one goal, and empty-net goals turn many of those into two-goal games that were one-goal games for fifty-nine minutes. That is why the puck line is 1.5 and never anything else.

And that is the trap. Heavy favourites pay back barely more than the stake, so a run of correct picks can still lose money. The price is the bet.

The competition-specific part: A goalie. Nothing else on the roster is close, and a starter scratched at warm-ups moves the number after most people have already bet.

None of this says which side to take. It says what the number in front of you is made of — and a number you cannot take apart is one you are trusting rather than reading.

What the published price did in the NHL

1,280 games in the NHL that are over and carried a price when we wrote them up, between November 26, 2025 and November 6, 2026. Each count sits beside what it is out of, and the share is the one divided by the other.

How they ended

Over 1,824 finished games in the NHL whose result line says how it ended — the feed's own one-line verdict, not a reading of the play.

1 game landed exactly on the number — the handicap or the total — so it is in the count it is out of and in neither result.

The prices counted here are DraftKings', as they stood when we last wrote each game up — one snapshot per game, near kick-off for almost all of them, and never a closing line. So this says what the published line did, not how it moved on the way there.

A season that happened. Nothing here predicts the next game, and none of it is advice.
