Reading a full line, piece by piece

A posted line carries four separate things: the side, the handicap, the price attached to that handicap, and the total with its own price. Four decisions on one row.

Each element answers a different question. The handicap says how much of a head start; the price says what you are charged for taking that side; the total is an entirely independent market that happens to share the row.

One row, four numbers 'Chiefs −3.5 (−115) · o47.5 (−110)'. The −3.5 is the handicap. The −115 is what you pay for it. The 47.5 is a different bet altogether. The −110 is what that one costs.

Formats vary between operators, and some place the price above the handicap or omit a standard price entirely.

Which is where it goes wrong. Most readers absorb the first two numbers and skip the prices, which is where the entire margin lives.

What to do with it. Read every row as four fields, and check the prices before comparing anything between books.

What the published price did in US sports

11,262 games in US sports that are over and carried a price when we wrote them up, between November 24, 2025 and November 6, 2026. Each count sits beside what it is out of, and the share is the one divided by the other.

How they ended

Over 16,021 finished games in US sports whose result line says how it ended — the feed's own one-line verdict, not a reading of the play.

286 games landed exactly on the number — the handicap or the total — so they are in the counts they are out of and in neither result.

The prices counted here are DraftKings', as they stood when we last wrote each game up — one snapshot per game, near kick-off for almost all of them, and never a closing line. So this says what the published line did, not how it moved on the way there.

A season that happened. Nothing here predicts the next game, and none of it is advice.

Counted November 6, 2026.
