When the price moves and the number does not
A book unwilling to cross a key number charges more for the same handicap instead. −3 at −110 becoming −3 at −125 is a real move of roughly half a point, expressed entirely in price.
Moving the handicap through a common margin is expensive; moving the price is not. So a book under pressure at a key number adjusts the cheaper of the two dials.
The same mechanism operates away from key numbers, just less dramatically, because there the book can simply move the handicap.
What follows from that is less comfortable. Readers watch the handicap because it is the larger, more legible number, and the information is frequently in the smaller one.
What to do with it. Track the price alongside the handicap, especially around key numbers where the handicap is deliberately sticky.

286 games landed exactly on the number — the handicap or the total — so they are in the counts they are out of and in neither result.
The prices counted here are DraftKings', as they stood when we last wrote each game up — one snapshot per game, near kick-off for almost all of them, and never a closing line. So this says what the published line did, not how it moved on the way there.
