The price attached to a total

A total quoted at −120 on the over and +100 on the under is not symmetric, and the asymmetry says which way the book expects money to arrive.

The number is set where the book thinks the game will land; the prices are adjusted around it to manage which side attracts action. So the number carries the forecast and the prices carry the demand.

What the asymmetry says o47.5 (−120) / u47.5 (+100) is the book charging a premium for the popular side. It is not saying the over is more likely; it is saying more people want it.

Very asymmetric pricing sometimes reflects a number the book cannot move — a total sitting on a whole number it is reluctant to cross for push reasons.

Here is the catch. The total gets all the attention and the two prices beside it carry most of the actual information about the market's state.

What to do with it. Read the price pair on every total, and treat a large asymmetry as a statement about flow rather than about the game.

What the published price did in US sports

11,262 games in US sports that are over and carried a price when we wrote them up, between November 24, 2025 and November 6, 2026. Each count sits beside what it is out of, and the share is the one divided by the other.

How they ended

Over 16,021 finished games in US sports whose result line says how it ended — the feed's own one-line verdict, not a reading of the play.

286 games landed exactly on the number — the handicap or the total — so they are in the counts they are out of and in neither result.

The prices counted here are DraftKings', as they stood when we last wrote each game up — one snapshot per game, near kick-off for almost all of them, and never a closing line. So this says what the published line did, not how it moved on the way there.

A season that happened. Nothing here predicts the next game, and none of it is advice.
