The largest home advantage in American sport
Small arenas, student sections and long bus journeys combine into something worth several points, and at some venues considerably more.
Crowd proximity affects officiating measurably, and college travel is by road for many programmes rather than by charter. Both effects are larger here than in any professional league.
It has shrunk somewhat as programmes have professionalised travel and officiating has been reviewed more systematically.
What follows from that is less comfortable. Applying one league-wide number across three hundred and sixty programmes with wildly different venues is the standard approach and it is wrong at both ends of the distribution.
What to do with it. Build or find venue-specific figures for the conferences you follow rather than using a league constant.

How they ended
Over 6,487 finished games in College Basketball whose result line says how it ended — the feed's own one-line verdict, not a reading of the play.
| What | How often | Out of | Share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Went past regulation | 329 | 6,487 | 5.1% |
4 games landed exactly on the number — the handicap or the total — so they are in the counts they are out of and in neither result.
The prices counted here are DraftKings', as they stood when we last wrote each game up — one snapshot per game, near kick-off for almost all of them, and never a closing line. So this says what the published line did, not how it moved on the way there.
A season that happened. Nothing here predicts the next game, and none of it is advice.
