Thirty seconds, not twenty-four

Six extra seconds per possession is the entire reason college totals sit fifty or more points below NBA numbers.

Fewer possessions per game means fewer scoring opportunities, and the difference compounds across forty minutes. The shot clock is the single largest structural difference between the two competitions.

The conversion error A high-scoring college game and a low-scoring NBA game can produce the same number. Somebody carrying NBA intuitions across is wrong by more than any edge they could possibly have.

Pace varies enormously within college basketball too — far more than in the NBA — because coaching identities persist for decades and the field is large enough to contain extremes.

Which is where it goes wrong. The two sports look identical on television and are priced on completely different scales, which makes the error easy to make and hard to notice.

What to do with it. Calibrate against college baselines only, and check each team's tempo rather than assuming a league average.

How they ended

Over 6,487 finished games in College Basketball whose result line says how it ended — the feed's own one-line verdict, not a reading of the play.

4 games landed exactly on the number — the handicap or the total — so they are in the counts they are out of and in neither result.

The prices counted here are DraftKings', as they stood when we last wrote each game up — one snapshot per game, near kick-off for almost all of them, and never a closing line. So this says what the published line did, not how it moved on the way there.

A season that happened. Nothing here predicts the next game, and none of it is advice.
