Overtime in a WNBA total
It is included, and the overtime period is five minutes — the same as the men's game, on a forty-minute game rather than a forty-eight-minute one.
That ratio is the part worth keeping. Five extra minutes is an eighth of a WNBA game and a tenth of an NBA game, so an overtime period moves a WNBA total by proportionally more.
Quarter and half markets exclude it, as they do everywhere. The full-game total and the team totals do not.
The problem arrives next. WNBA numbers are smaller than NBA numbers while the extra period is the same length, so a habit built on the men's game underrates what overtime does here.
What to do with it. Adjust the overtime risk on a WNBA under upward rather than carrying an instinct across, and treat a tie at the buzzer as most of the way to the number.
