Blowout risk and a player prop in the NFL

Most of what gets said about this is downstream of one detail. A game decided by forty is not a football question, it is a question about what a coach does in the fourth quarter.

A player prop is a bet on one person's output rather than on the result, and in the NFL it behaves like this: Snap counts are the hidden variable. A player who is fine and playing sixty per cent of snaps produces a different distribution to the same player at ninety.

Where the two meet Starters sitting, a clock that stops running, and a backup with two career passes are each worth two scores and none is announced.

The league's own contribution: The clock stops on incompletions and out of bounds, so a two-score deficit inside two minutes is recoverable in a way it is not in basketball.

What follows from that is less comfortable. The biggest, most confident-looking numbers carry the most hidden variance, not the least. And on this market in particular: A prop is correlated with the game state in ways the price often does not fully carry: a decided game changes what every player on the field is trying to do, and usually removes the minutes or the attempts the number was built on.

What the published price did in the NFL

276 games in the NFL that are over and carried a price when we wrote them up, between November 25, 2025 and November 6, 2026. Each count sits beside what it is out of, and the share is the one divided by the other.

How they ended

Over 457 finished games in the NFL whose result line says how it ended — the feed's own one-line verdict, not a reading of the play.

Went past regulation274575.9%

8 games landed exactly on the number — the handicap or the total — so they are in the counts they are out of and in neither result.

The prices counted here are DraftKings', as they stood when we last wrote each game up — one snapshot per game, near kick-off for almost all of them, and never a closing line. So this says what the published line did, not how it moved on the way there.

A season that happened. Nothing here predicts the next game, and none of it is advice.

Counted November 6, 2026.
