What a steam move means in the NFL
The useful version of this is narrower than the popular one. A number moving at several books within minutes, in the same direction, without news. That is one large opinion arriving, not a crowd.
In the NFL specifically: A week between games means every injury is reported, every line is fully formed by Thursday, and the market has more time on an NFL game than on anything else.
It is the closest thing to seeing what a serious bettor did, and it is visible only because books move together to avoid being picked off.
That is also the expensive part. You are seeing the wake, not the boat. The price that made it worth doing is gone before the move finishes.
