How decimal odds work, and how to convert

A decimal price is a multiplier. Stake × price = what comes back, your stake included. That is the whole rule, and it is why we publish in this format by default.

Two prices, one multiplication 10 at 2.65 returns 26.50 — 16.50 of profit and your 10 back.
10 at 1.68 returns 16.80 — 6.80 of profit and your 10 back.
The higher the number, the less likely the market prices it to be.

Converting to American

  • 2.00 or above: subtract 1, multiply by 100, write a plus. 2.65 → 1.65 × 100 = +165.
  • Below 2.00: divide 100 by the price minus 1, write a minus. 1.68 → 100 ÷ 0.68 = −147. And 1.91 → 100 ÷ 0.91 = −110, the price you see on most spreads and totals.
  • 2.00 is the hinge: even money, +100 and −100 at once.

And to fractional

Take the price minus 1 and write it as a fraction. 3.00 becomes 2/1, 1.50 becomes 1/2. Fractional odds quote your profit only, which is the source of most of the confusion between the three formats: decimal includes your stake in the number, fractional and American do not.

Why we use it

Comparing two bookmakers becomes comparing two numbers, with no sign to flip and no fraction to reduce. It also makes a minimum price easy to state and easy to check: it is a number your book's price must not fall below on that exact side and line.

The bet calculator multiplies it out for you, and converts to the other two formats while it is there.

Work it out. The odds converter turns any American, decimal, fractional or percentage price into the other three.

What the published price did in US sports

11,262 games in US sports that are over and carried a price when we wrote them up, between November 24, 2025 and November 6, 2026. Each count sits beside what it is out of, and the share is the one divided by the other.

How they ended

Over 16,021 finished games in US sports whose result line says how it ended — the feed's own one-line verdict, not a reading of the play.

286 games landed exactly on the number — the handicap or the total — so they are in the counts they are out of and in neither result.

The prices counted here are DraftKings', as they stood when we last wrote each game up — one snapshot per game, near kick-off for almost all of them, and never a closing line. So this says what the published line did, not how it moved on the way there.

A season that happened. Nothing here predicts the next game, and none of it is advice.
