The clock stops on first downs
College football stops the clock after every first down until the chains are set. That adds possessions the professional game does not have.
More clock stoppages mean more plays in the same nominal game length, and more plays mean more scoring opportunities. The rule difference is worth several points of total on its own.
Recent rule adjustments have reduced this in some situations, so the gap is narrower than it once was and is still real.
Which is where it goes wrong. Carrying NFL total intuitions into college is out by several points before anybody looks at either team, and the error is invisible because both sports are called football.
What to do with it. Calibrate college totals against college baselines only, and never against remembered NFL numbers.

How they ended
Over 1,299 finished games in College Football whose result line says how it ended — the feed's own one-line verdict, not a reading of the play.
| What | How often | Out of | Share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Went past regulation | 64 | 1,299 | 4.9% |
5 games landed exactly on the number — the handicap or the total — so they are in the counts they are out of and in neither result.
The prices counted here are DraftKings', as they stood when we last wrote each game up — one snapshot per game, near kick-off for almost all of them, and never a closing line. So this says what the published line did, not how it moved on the way there.
A season that happened. Nothing here predicts the next game, and none of it is advice.
