College overtime starts each team in field-goal range
Each side gets the ball on the opponent's 25-yard line. Points arrive immediately and repeatedly, and no other overtime format in sport inflates totals as violently.
Starting inside field-goal range guarantees scoring opportunities rather than creating them. A single overtime period typically produces two scores, and a double overtime produces four.
The rules change again in later overtimes, requiring two-point conversions, which accelerates scoring further rather than slowing it.
The problem arrives next. An under that was comfortably winning at the end of regulation can lose in about ninety seconds of game time, and nothing about the preceding sixty minutes predicted it.
What to do with it. Price the probability of overtime explicitly on college unders near the number, because the tail is fatter here than anywhere else.

How they ended
Over 1,299 finished games in College Football whose result line says how it ended — the feed's own one-line verdict, not a reading of the play.
| What | How often | Out of | Share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Went past regulation | 64 | 1,299 | 4.9% |
5 games landed exactly on the number — the handicap or the total — so they are in the counts they are out of and in neither result.
The prices counted here are DraftKings', as they stood when we last wrote each game up — one snapshot per game, near kick-off for almost all of them, and never a closing line. So this says what the published line did, not how it moved on the way there.
A season that happened. Nothing here predicts the next game, and none of it is advice.
