The closing line is the only scoreboard that is hard to fake

A record is the easiest thing in this industry to construct. Post ten picks, delete six, screenshot the four. Nothing about the four is false. The set they came from is the lie, and it is invisible in the screenshot.

There is one measurement that resists this, and it is boring enough that almost nobody advertises it: the price you got against the price the market settled on.

Bet −2.5, closed −3.5 Whether this bet won is not the interesting fact about it. The interesting fact is that the number moved a full point toward the side that was taken, in the hours between the bet and kick-off, while thousands of people with money at stake looked at the same game. That happened, or it did not, and it is on the record either way.

The reason it is hard to fake is structural. A pick's result is one bit of information that arrives after the fact and can be quietly dropped. A closing line is a public number, recorded by everyone, at a time everybody agrees on. To fake it you would have to fake the market.

It is also honest about its own limits. Beating the close does not pay anybody's rent — you can beat the closing line on a bet that loses, all night, and lose money doing it. Over a small number of bets it tells you almost nothing. It is a slow measurement of process, not a fast measurement of profit, which is precisely why it is unpopular in an industry that sells fast.

The practical version, if you take one thing from this: ask when the pick was sent and what the number was at that moment. A service that will not timestamp its own picks is not withholding a detail. It is withholding the only thing that would let you check.

What the published price did in US sports

11,262 games in US sports that are over and carried a price when we wrote them up, between November 24, 2025 and November 6, 2026. Each count sits beside what it is out of, and the share is the one divided by the other.

How they ended

Over 16,021 finished games in US sports whose result line says how it ended — the feed's own one-line verdict, not a reading of the play.

WhatHow oftenOut ofShare

286 games landed exactly on the number — the handicap or the total — so they are in the counts they are out of and in neither result.

The prices counted here are DraftKings', as they stood when we last wrote each game up — one snapshot per game, near kick-off for almost all of them, and never a closing line. So this says what the published line did, not how it moved on the way there.

A season that happened. Nothing here predicts the next game, and none of it is advice.

Counted November 6, 2026.
