What a back-to-back actually does to an NBA total

An NBA team playing its second game in two nights, on the road, having flown after the first — this is the most legible fatigue situation in American sport. Anybody can look it up. The schedule is published a year in advance.

Which is exactly the problem. A factor visible to everyone a year ahead is not an edge; it is an input, and it was priced into the number before you opened the app. The total did not open at 228 and wait for you to notice the back-to-back. It opened at 224 because of it.

The under that already happened You spot the back-to-back, you take the under at 224, and the game goes 231. Nothing went wrong with your reasoning. The four points you thought you were collecting were taken off the number before it was posted, and you paid for them twice.

What is genuinely unpriced is narrower and much less satisfying: which players actually sit. Rest decisions are made by coaches on the morning of the game, sometimes an hour before tip, and a star ruled out at 6pm moves a total in a way the schedule never could — because that piece of information did not exist a year in advance.

Pace matters more than fatigue does in the first place. A tired team that plays fast still produces possessions; a rested team that walks the ball up does not. Two teams in the bottom five for pace will go under a high total on a Tuesday with everyone healthy and rested, and no one will call it a fatigue angle.

The useful lesson is not about basketball. Any factor you can find in a public schedule has already been found. The parts of a game that are still worth money are the parts that were decided today.

What the published price did in the NBA

1,261 games in the NBA that are over and carried a price when we wrote them up, between November 25, 2025 and November 6, 2026. Each count sits beside what it is out of, and the share is the one divided by the other.

How they ended

Over 1,587 finished games in the NBA whose result line says how it ended — the feed's own one-line verdict, not a reading of the play.

WhatHow oftenOut ofShare
Went past regulation771,5874.9%

4 games landed exactly on the number — the handicap or the total — so they are in the counts they are out of and in neither result.

The prices counted here are DraftKings', as they stood when we last wrote each game up — one snapshot per game, near kick-off for almost all of them, and never a closing line. So this says what the published line did, not how it moved on the way there.

A season that happened. Nothing here predicts the next game, and none of it is advice.

Counted November 6, 2026.
