Reading a quarter-goal handicap

A soccer handicap ending in .25 or .75 splits the stake across two adjacent lines. A −0.25 line is half at 0 and half at −0.5.

It exists to allow finer gradations than half-goal steps in a sport where a single goal is a large share of the outcome. The split is mechanical rather than a judgement call.

How it settles A 1-1 draw on −0.25 returns half the stake and loses the other half. One result, two different settlements on one bet — something no American market does.

The same mechanism applies to quarter-goal totals, producing half-wins and half-losses on totals as well.

Which is where it goes wrong. The notation looks like a precision refinement and is actually two separate bets, which is not obvious from the number alone.

What to do with it. When you see a quarter line, write out both halves explicitly before deciding whether you want the combination.

What the published price did in US sports

11,262 games in US sports that are over and carried a price when we wrote them up, between November 24, 2025 and November 6, 2026. Each count sits beside what it is out of, and the share is the one divided by the other.

How they ended

Over 16,021 finished games in US sports whose result line says how it ended — the feed's own one-line verdict, not a reading of the play.

286 games landed exactly on the number — the handicap or the total — so they are in the counts they are out of and in neither result.

The prices counted here are DraftKings', as they stood when we last wrote each game up — one snapshot per game, near kick-off for almost all of them, and never a closing line. So this says what the published line did, not how it moved on the way there.

A season that happened. Nothing here predicts the next game, and none of it is advice.
