Blowouts delete the props that looked best
Starters sit once a game is decided, so the minutes a prop needs disappear exactly in the game where the projection looked most comfortable.
The blowout and the attractive prop have the same cause: a large talent mismatch. The mismatch that makes a big number look reachable is the mismatch that ends the game early.
It runs the other way in a chasing situation. A player on a team losing badly plays heavy minutes with high usage, which is why some overs benefit from a blowout in the other direction.
Here is the catch. It feels like bad luck and is a predictable consequence of the spread, which was visible before the bet was placed.
What to do with it. Read the spread before any prop over, and ask whether the projected game script provides the minutes the number needs.
