Pace decides more of a basketball total than quality does
Possessions are the raw material of a total, and a team's style sets how many there will be before ability decides what happens in them.
Points equal efficiency multiplied by opportunities. Two teams can be excellent per possession and produce a low-scoring game by having few of them, and two poor teams can sail over by playing fast.
Pace is situational as well as stylistic. A trailing team plays faster and a leading one slows down, so the spread and the total are more connected than they look.
And that is the trap. Everybody knows which offences are good and almost nobody checks possession counts, so the input that is harder to find is the one that explains more of the number.
What to do with it. Look up pace before efficiency when pricing a total, and check whether the two teams' styles compound or cancel.

What the published price did in the NBA
1,261 games in the NBA that are over and carried a price when we wrote them up, between November 25, 2025 and November 6, 2026. Each count sits beside what it is out of, and the share is the one divided by the other.

How they ended
Over 1,587 finished games in the NBA whose result line says how it ended — the feed's own one-line verdict, not a reading of the play.
| What | How often | Out of | Share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Went past regulation | 77 | 1,587 | 4.9% |
4 games landed exactly on the number — the handicap or the total — so they are in the counts they are out of and in neither result.
The prices counted here are DraftKings', as they stood when we last wrote each game up — one snapshot per game, near kick-off for almost all of them, and never a closing line. So this says what the published line did, not how it moved on the way there.
A season that happened. Nothing here predicts the next game, and none of it is advice.
